I'm using Windows Mail on Vista Build 5308 and am trying to create a news account for my ISP's (Road Runner) news server. When it goes to download group names, it gets about 975 of them and stops every time. Is this a problem with 5308 or my news server?
TIA
Tom Lake

Can't Get Newsgroups
Sounds like a news server thing. Anyone else having a newsgroup problem? I can download all the newsgroups on my Vista machine, except I use my Vista PC for beta newsgroups as opposed to this one.

Yep--had this problem on the last build also. It seems if there is more than 3000 groups--road runner has more than 40000-- it only downloads the first few thousand, then gives a disconnect err. Happens on the last build also. I did bug it this time.

I'd say with 95% certainty that we've fixed this for Beta 2, unfortunately the fix didn't make it into the Feb CTP. if you want to contact me with a little more information, you can reply to me at the address listed.

I'm pretty sure it's a known issue. Dates back to Build 5231 for me. Except my ISP is Cebridge.net. Guess I'll have to try downloading newsgroups again to see how it does. Haven't tried in 5308 yet.

Beta newsgroups download fine, Zack. It's usually the newsgroups on one's ISP that won't download. Anything Microsoft doesn't dare not download. :-}

Hi Judd:
So, I needn't bother checking to see if I can download Cebridge Connections newsgroups? :-} Just got a final note that the bug has been closed.

From Vista? Been awhile since I had the bug, but it seems that some ISPs newsgroups download fine if they have/don't have something or other. Wish I could remember what it was. Judd knows.
